Since December, the Timpanogos School Board has been visiting each of the 29 school sites within our new district boundaries. In addition to touring school campuses, the board also visited the Bus Depot and Garage in American Fork, Physical Facilities and Maintenance, the Space Center, and Special Education program locations. This week, the board completed visits to every school and district property within Timpanogos boundaries.
Our purpose for these visits was to better understand each facility, become familiar with the unique needs of every campus and those it serves, and gain a clearer picture of the property and building priorities we will inherit as a new district. At each site, administrators shared enrollment information and campus-specific details such as classroom capacity, facility conditions, potential remodel considerations, and property needs. The Board also appreciated the first-hand experience of observing the character and history reflected in our buildings. We were consistently impressed by the care and pride shown throughout our campuses. Our custodial teams and administrators deserve recognition for maintaining clean, welcoming environments for students and staff.
"Board members are determined to have good information to make informed decisions. And they are seeking to understand the realities behind what it takes to create conditions for educators, students, and classified staff to thrive. These visits have been an important part of those efforts." Dr. Jensen
The tours were not all about checklists and facilities. We were warmly welcomed by administrators, staff, and students, stepped into dozens of classrooms, and greeted teachers and students hard at work. We previewed a laser show at the Space Center and even caught a quick game of Gaga ball along the way. The board thanks each and every school and facility for the time given to share with us. One of the greatest takeaways from these visits is being reminded that the work happening in our classrooms each day is extraordinary. We deeply value the dedication and impact of the educators and staff who make it possible.
With facility visits now complete, Dr. Jensen will begin a School Community Tour. Over the coming months, he plans to visit each school community to meet with administrators, employees, and key community members. Board members representing each area will attend these meetings as well. The purpose of these conversations is to listen, learn, and collaboratively shape the vision of Timpanogos School District. We look forward to continuing to build relationships across our communities and getting to know our schools — not just as buildings, but as vibrant centers of learning and connection.
