Amy Keyes has a rich background in education spanning various roles and settings. She began her teaching career teaching English as a middle school teacher and later transitioned to teaching adult community education English classes to multilingual adults. As her family started to grow, she made the difficult decision to put her official career on hold and started volunteering in the elementary schools her children attended, focusing on RTI supports. Once all her children were in school, she realized she really liked elementary. She started teaching again as a paraprofessional at her children’s elementary, again focusing on RTI supports and then working in Special Education as she has studied to obtain her SpEd certification, K-12. In Special Education, she has worked in resource and small group autism and ED classes.
Amy and her family have lived in Utah County for many years, most of those years in Orem and now American Fork. She and her husband have 6 children (4 boys, 1 daughter, and 1 daughter-in-law). In October, they will have their first grandchild. Amy’s husband, Sterling, is also an educator. He worked at Orem High School for 16 years teaching choir and more recently he is an administrator at Lone Peak High School. They both love talking about education together, all the time!
Amy is looking forward to working with the wonderful faculty and staff at Riverview Elementary! Working in Special Education, she has learned that collaboration and communication are vital to the success of the students and school. She looks forward to getting to know all of you as you work together to achieve student and school success. Plus, she feels Riverview Elementary definitely has the cutest and coolest mascot!
